Authorities at the Queen Elizabeth II Port have successfully intercepted 461 cartons of illegal tramadol, marking the most significant narcotics seizure in Sierra Leone's history.
The substantial shipment was identified during a strategic security operation at the quay. According to the Port Authority Director, the scale of this seizure is unprecedented, representing the largest single recovery of illicit substances ever recorded within the nation.
The interception occurred during cargo offloading procedures. Security personnel intervened as the contraband was being moved, resulting in the immediate apprehension of the transport driver involved in the delivery.
Preliminary findings confirm that the consignment originated from India and is allegedly linked to a Guinean national.
The total volume of the seizure is confirmed at 461 cartons, estimated to contain millions of individual units.
The confiscated substances have been formally transferred to the Transnational Organised Crime Unit (TOCU). Investigative teams are currently working to dismantle the broader criminal network associated with the shipment, while the driver remains in custody to facilitate ongoing inquiries.
"This operation represents a critical success for our port security infrastructure," a port official stated during the formal handover. "It serves as a definitive signal to international trafficking syndicates that Sierra Leone is strengthening its border enforcement against illicit trade."
