The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has begun distributing 8,420 footballs to schools nationwide, starting with 808 balls handed over to 55 schools in the Western Area.
The initiative aims to revive school leagues and identify young football talent across the country.
Speaking at the launch, SLFA President Babadi Kamara highlighted the importance of balancing education with football and revealed that both CAF and FIFA Presidents had sent greetings to Sierra Leonean pupils. He also noted that the balls, which had been in FA storage for two years, would now be used to support talent spotting.
Abu Bakarr Conteh, Director of Education, Programmes and Services, thanked the SLFA and urged schools to use the balls responsibly, while Abu Bakarr S. Barrie of Collegiate Secondary School encouraged students to stay away from drugs and embrace football.

The distribution will continue nationwide, with schools such as Albert Academy, Wilberforce Municipal Junior Secondary School, and King Fahad Islamic Secondary School among the first beneficiaries.

The SLFA also announced plans for a Sports Arena Project to provide artificial turf and perimeter fencing in selected schools.
