SLFA Rolls Out CAF C Licence Course to Boost Coaching Standards

The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has commenced a new cycle of the CAF C Licence coaching programme, reinforcing its drive to professionalise football coaching and strengthen grassroots development across the country.

The three-month training blends classroom instruction with hands-on field sessions, offering participants exposure to contemporary coaching methods, tactical systems, and player development strategies aligned with the framework of the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF). The initiative is expected to enhance the technical competence of local coaches and improve standards at community and competitive levels.

The course is being delivered by CAF-accredited instructor Keatu John Smith, who is collaborating with SLFA Technical Director John Keister to oversee implementation of the curriculum. The programme focuses on modern training methodologies, match analysis, athlete management, and ethical coaching practices.

Speaking at the launch, SLFA President Babadi Kamara called on participants to demonstrate discipline and professionalism throughout the course. He stressed that developing qualified coaches remains central to building a sustainable football structure capable of nurturing talent and competing effectively at higher levels.

Football stakeholders say the certification programme forms part of a broader strategy to elevate technical standards nationwide, ensuring that emerging players receive structured guidance from trained and licensed professionals.

With growing attention on youth development and long-term planning, the SLFA’s latest move signals continued commitment to investing in human capital as a foundation for the future success of Sierra Leonean football.
