The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has taken a historic step to safeguard the health and integrity of its athletes by signing its first-ever Anti-Doping Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Olympic Committee Sierra Leone (NOC).
The signing ceremony took place at the NOC offices on Walpole Street, Freetown.
The landmark agreement establishes a formal framework to promote clean sport, protect athletes from harmful substances, and ensure fair play across Sierra Leonean football.
Speaking at the event, SLFA President Babadi Kamara underscored the importance of the initiative in protecting players’ health and preserving the ethics of the sport. “If we are not able to completely eradicate drugs, we will at least minimize it to the barest minimum,” he affirmed. Kamara highlighted that the MOU is a crucial first step in shielding Sierra Leone’s young football talents from drug abuse.
The signing was witnessed by key stakeholders, including NOC President Prince Vandy Sualley, NOC Secretary Ahmed Khanou, Head of the National Anti-Doping Organization (NADO-SL) Dr. Conton, and SLFA Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, reflecting the national significance of the partnership.
NOC President Prince Vandy Sualley praised the SLFA for taking the initiative and pledged full support for its implementation. He expressed optimism that the partnership would strengthen sports development nationwide and set a benchmark for professionalism and integrity in Sierra Leonean football.
This MOU signals a major milestone in the country’s sporting landscape and demonstrates SLFA President Babadi Kamara’s commitment to advancing professionalism, protecting athletes, and promoting fair competition. Stakeholders and football enthusiasts have welcomed the initiative as a key step toward elevating Sierra Leonean football to international standards.
