SLP Donates Motorbikes in Kailahun

In a bid to enhance local security operations, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) officially handed over five new TVS motorbikes to the Local Police Partnership Board (LPPB) and Community Volunteer Supporters (CSVs) in Kailahun on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
The handover ceremony, held at the Kailahun Town Barry, brought together key stakeholders from the security sector, local government, and community organizations across the Eastern Region.
Delivering the opening remarks, Superintendent Taimu B. Sesay, Local Unit Commander for the Kailahun Police Division, welcomed attendees and outlined the rationale behind the donation. He explained that the initiative fulfills a commitment made by Inspector General of Police William Fayei Sellu following an unannounced visit to the district weeks prior, which came in the wake of recent tensions between commercial bike riders and local police.
Superintendent Sesay noted that local authorities had requested mobility support for the CSVs to help bridge operational gaps caused by personnel constraints within the division. By bolstering the volunteer forces, the SLP aims to strengthen community policing and ensure the protection of lives and property throughout the district.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the community, LPPB Board Chairman Babah Sundifu Ngobeh commended the Inspector General for his prompt response. Ngobeh highlighted that unlike previous donations of used vehicles, the brand-new motorbikes will significantly boost long-term mobility and service delivery. He assured stakeholders that the equipment would be properly maintained and strictly dedicated to its intended public safety purposes.
Representatives from the Office of National Security (ONS), the Inter-Religious Council, the Town Chief of Kailahun, and Paramount Chief Mohamed Kailondo Banya of Luawa Chiefdom also offered statements of support, praising the initiative as a timely contribution toward regional stability.
Presenting the keys on behalf of Inspector General Sellu, Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Bongay, Regional Police Commander East, extended warm greetings from police leadership.
Reflecting on past unrest, AIG Bongay urged for continued peace and cooperation between law enforcement and local residents, emphasizing that active community involvement is essential to the success of modern policing strategies.
