SLPHA Enhances Connectivity for 2026 ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit

The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has played a pivotal role in the logistics of the 2026 ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit, providing critical ferry transport and hospitality services for visiting dignitaries.

As the summit proceeds at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Center in Lungi, the Authority has mobilized staff across key transit points, including the Government Wharf, Kissy Ferry Terminal, and Tagrin Ferry Terminal. 

These efforts have ensured the seamless and secure movement of Heads of State and international delegates traveling between Freetown and the summit venue in Lungi.

The operation, directed by SLPHA Director General Yankuba Askia Bio with the backing of the Ministry of Transport and Aviation, serves as a logistical backbone for the regional gathering, reflecting the nation's capacity to host high-stakes diplomatic events.

On Tuesday, July 14, 2026, Deputy Minister of Transport and Aviation, Rex Bonapha, conducted an inspection aboard the MV Muzuk. During his visit, he praised the SLPHA’s operational efficiency and standard of care. 

"The ferry operations and customer service are top-notch,"

the Deputy Minister remarked, noting that such dedication from public institutions is vital for projecting a positive image of Sierra Leone to the international community.

The ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit brings together leaders from across West Africa to discuss regional peace, security, economic integration, and trade. 

Beyond its statutory mandate of maritime and port services, the SLPHA’s contribution to the summit underscores the agency’s commitment to facilitating national development and strengthening regional cooperation.
