SLPP Diamond Jubilee: Bio Urges Unity and Criteria for 2028 Flagbearer

His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio joined a massive gathering of party faithful and dignitaries in Freetown to celebrate the Diamond Jubilee of the governing Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). Under the theme “75 Years of Leadership, Legacy and Service,” the event served as a jubilant reflection on the party’s journey from the independence era to its current governance, while simultaneously acting as a strategic launchpad for the future.

During his keynote address, President Bio emphasized the SLPP’s foundational role in Sierra Leone’s political development, urging members to uphold the party’s legacy of national service.

However, the President’s message was firmly focused on the future, issuing a clarion call for unity, discipline, and strategic preparedness.

He directed party organs to commence immediate work to ensure a successful outcome in the 2028 general elections, warning that internal cohesion is essential to maintaining the party's mandate and developmental agenda.

A significant highlight of the address was the President’s formal definition of the criteria for the SLPP’s 2028 flagbearer.

He stated that the ideal candidate must possess significant national win potential, serve as a unifying force within the party, and command widespread national respect.

Furthermore, the future leader must articulate a clear vision for delivery and demonstrate the resilience to manage multi-faceted criticism.

As the Diamond Jubilee concluded, the President’s central directive remained resolute: the SLPP must honor its historical legacy while maintaining a fixed focus on the future development of Sierra Leone.
