In a clinical display of footballing prowess, Star Sport Academy dismantled Luawa FC with an emphatic 4-0 victory on Wednesday, July 8.
The result carries heavy implications for both ends of the Leone Rock Premier League table, as the dominant performance officially condemned Luawa FC to relegation while keeping Star Sport Academy’s title aspirations alive.
The match began with high intensity, and it didn’t take long for the Academy to assert their authority. In the 17th minute, Larry Siemon opened the scoring with a brilliant finish, capitalizing on a pinpoint assist from Abdulai Aruna Sankoh. Star Sport’s momentum only grew from there; in the 30th minute, Sankoh himself turned from provider to scorer, coolly converting a penalty after a handball in the box. The home side headed into the tunnel at halftime with a commanding 2-0 cushion.
Luawa FC emerged for the second half with renewed determination, fighting to preserve their top-flight status. Goalkeeper Gibrilla Conteh was called into action repeatedly, making several acrobatic saves to keep his side within touching distance. However, the relentless pressure from Star Sport Academy eventually breached the Luawa defense once more. In the 88th minute, Abubakarr Yillah effectively ended the contest, slotting home after a neat setup by Michael Kargbo.
The rout was completed deep into stoppage time when captain James Kai Yamba found the back of the net. Assisted by Senessie Janneh, Yamba’s strike served as the final blow in a performance that highlighted the vast gulf in class between the two sides on the day.
With this victory, Star Sport Academy surges to second place in the standings, amassing 60 points and putting pressure on the league leaders as the season reaches its climax. Conversely, the defeat leaves Luawa FC stranded on 33 points. With only one match remaining, they are now mathematically incapable of escaping the drop zone, marking a somber end to their campaign in the Leone Rock Premier League.
