Sudanese National Jailed 38 Months for Over $14,000 Fraud in Kenema

A Sudanese national, Mohamed Harovna Adam, has been sentenced to thirty-eight (38) months’ imprisonment by Magistrate Hadiru Daboh of Magistrate Court No. 1 in Kenema after pleading guilty to fraudulent conversion.


The convict was arraigned on a single count of fraudulent conversion contrary to Section 20(1)(iv)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916. The charge was read and explained to the defendant in open court.



According to the particulars of the offence, as read by court clerk Ibrahim Tomboyeke, Mohamed Harovna Adam fraudulently converted the sum of fourteen thousand one hundred and thirty-five United States dollars (US$14,135) between 2024 and 6 February 2025 in Kenema City. The money was entrusted to him by the complainant, Khamis Abdalla Adam, for business purposes.


Upon the reading of the charge, the defendant pleaded guilty.


In his judgment, Magistrate Daboh sentenced the defendant to 38 months’ imprisonment at the Sierra Leone Correctional Centre (SLCC) in Kenema, with an alternative option to pay the full amount stated in the particulars of the offence.


The complainant was represented by prosecuting counsel Joseph Bandabla Dauda, popularly known as JBD Esq., associated with Lawyer Dauda Chorane Gbow. The defendant was not legally represented.
