Surveyor Remanded in Freetown Over Alleged Land Fraud

A surveyor has been remanded in custody following allegations of fraudulent land transactions involving two vehicles valued at US$7,000.

Anthony Murray appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2, where he was remanded to the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown. He faces two counts of obtaining goods by false pretences under Section 32(1) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to court particulars, between December 1 and December 31, 2024, at Youyi Building in Brookfields, Murray allegedly obtained a grey Volkswagen Polo Golf valued at US$6,000 and a black motorcycle valued at US$1,000 from Musa Koroma. Prosecutors contend that Murray falsely claimed to own land for sale at Baoma Village along the Waterloo–Tombo Highway.

No plea was entered as the case is currently at the committal stage. Deputy Superintendent of Police Sorie Conteh informed the court that the defendant had been served with the case and inquiry file. Murray, who appeared without legal representation, confirmed receipt of the documents.

Citing the gravity of the offences, Magistrate Fornah denied bail and ordered the defendant remanded. The proceedings have been adjourned to October 15, 2026.
