Suspect Detained Following Burglary and Vandalism of Electricity Meter


An incident of burglary in Lumley, Freetown, led to the arrest of Abdul Charles Sesay, who was allegedly found tampering with an electricity meter. Magistrate Kakura has since ordered his remand.


Mr. Sesay faces charges of burglary, in violation of Section 24 of the Larceny Act 1916, and malicious damage, under Section 51 of the Malicious Damage Act 1861.



The alleged offenses took place on April 9, 2025, in Kamayama, Lumley, Freetown.

According to the charges, the accused is alleged to have unlawfully entered the residence of Isatu Conteh with the intent to commit theft.


Additionally, he is accused of will-fully damaging an EDSA electricity meter, valued at Le3,500, belonging to the complainant.



In her testimony as the first prosecution witness, Isatu Conteh, residing at No. 7 Big Mama Drive, Kamayama, Lumley, identified the accused.


She testified that around 9:00 p.m. on April 9, she heard an unusual noise near her electricity meter, which prompted her to alert her mother. Upon investigation, they discovered interference with the cable and the meter card dislodged.



The accused was found on the property and detained until law enforcement officials arrived the next morning, at which time Ms. Conteh provided a formal statement.


Due to the seriousness of the alleged offenses, Magistrate Kakura denied bail and scheduled the next hearing for Monday, May 12, 2025.


The judicial proceedings continue as authorities strive to combat criminal activity among youth in the area.
