Team Sierra Leone Ready for Competition After Commonwealth Games Opener

Following the conclusion of the 2026 Commonwealth Games Opening Ceremony in Glasgow, Team Sierra Leone’s Chef De Mission, Yayah Koroma, has praised the delegation for their discipline and resilience.
In a message to the team, Koroma extended his gratitude to the athletes and officials who participated in Thursday’s ceremony, highlighting their exemplary conduct and dedication to representing the nation. While acknowledging that some team members are still in transit due to the Games' length-of-stay policy, he wished them safe travels and success in their upcoming events.
Koroma expressed strong confidence in the Sierra Leonean contingent, specifically highlighting the swimming team as they prepare to begin their campaign. He also offered encouragement to the athletes competing in boxing, athletics, track cycling, and judo, urging them to remain focused and compete with national pride for the "Green, White, and Blue."
"We believe in you. Fight hard, stay focused, and represent Sierra Leone with pride," Koroma stated.
The Chef De Mission also credited the leadership and commitment of key sports officials—including Minister of Sports Augusta James-Teima, National Sports Authority Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, and NOC President Prince Suallay—for their invaluable support in facilitating the country’s participation in Glasgow.
Koroma concluded by expressing optimism for a successful performance as the team heads into full competition.
