Twin Brothers Committed for Trial in Murder Case
Two twin brothers, Alhassan Fofanah and Alusine Fofanah, have been committed to the High Court for trial in connection with the alleged murder of Mumunie Bah and the wounding of another man during an incident in Sumaila Town earlier this year.
The ruling was delivered on September 28, 2026, by Magistrate Manso John Fornah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 2 following a preliminary investigation. Magistrate Fornah determined that the prosecution had established a sufficient case to warrant sending both defendants to the High Court for trial.
The charges against the brothers comprise five counts: conspiracy to murder, murder, wounding with intent, wounding, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. Because the proceedings were held strictly for committal, no formal pleas were taken from either defendant.
According to allegations presented by the prosecution, the incident occurred on July 4, 2026, behind the PWD Headquarters in Sumaila Town, Freetown. The brothers are accused of conspiring with unknown individuals to murder Mumunie Bah, as well as assaulting and wounding Alie Bangura with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
During the committal hearing, the prosecution tendered testimony from factual and expert witnesses alongside documentary evidence, including medical reports and a post-mortem examination. Among the key exhibits submitted were three knives allegedly retrieved from the scene by witness Pus Moli Bangura. Police investigations linked the blood-stained weapons to the defendants and another individual implicated in the altercation.
Caution statements recorded during police interrogation revealed conflicting accounts between the accused. Alhassan Fofanah allegedly stated that his twin brother possessed a knife and engaged in the fight with Bah. Conversely, Alusine Fofanah denied all involvement in his statement to investigators.
Both defendants remain in custody pending the scheduling of their trial before the High Court, where the formal allegations will be tried and determined.
