Two Remanded Over Alleged Theft Of 48 Air Conditioners At Attorney General’s Building

Two young men have been remanded at the Freetown Male Correctional Facility after appearing in court over an alleged theft at the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Building on Lamina Sankoh Street, Freetown.

Mohamed Kamara, 24, and Abdul Kargbo, 24, a labourer, are facing charges of conspiracy, larceny and malicious damage before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1.

The accused are alleged to have conspired between May 1 and May 27, 2026, to commit larceny at the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Building.

According to the prosecution, the suspects allegedly stole several government properties, including 48 air conditioners, 16 steel doors, 24 double-slide window glasses, three EDSA meters and other assorted items belonging to the Attorney General and the Ministry of Justice.

The prosecution further alleged that the accused maliciously damaged four wooden doors within the premises.

When the charges were read and explained to the accused, they did not enter a plea, as the matter is currently at the committal stage.

The prosecutor, Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, informed the court that both accused had been served with copies of the case and inquiry files and had acknowledged receipt.

Magistrate Jah denied bail and remanded the accused to the Freetown Male Correctional Facility. The matter was adjourned to September 10, 2026, for further proceedings.

The allegations have not been proven in court, and the accused remain entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven guilty.
