The Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) Sierra Leone 2026 concluded its two-day summit on Thursday, October 8, at the Freetown City Council Main Hall, culminating in the formal adoption of the LCOY26 National Youth Statement.

The landmark statement integrates key priorities gathered during nationwide consultations across the North-West, Northern, Southern, and Eastern regions. Formally presented by conference convener Hassan Hindolo Senesie, the document outlines youth-driven recommendations for climate action, green financing, and inclusive policymaking.

Throughout the conference, delegates and climate leaders tackled critical issues through targeted panel sessions. Initial discussions centered on green job creation and sustainable finance, featuring contributions from panellists Lovetta Yatta Juanah, Foday Mark Kamara, Billy Harry Sesay, and Mohamed A. Kamara, under the moderation of Foday Kanneh.

Subsequent panels addressed inclusivity, waste management, and policy integration. Keynote speaker Abubakar Bakley Sesay stressed the importance of embedding gender, disability, and cultural heritage into climate initiatives. Meanwhile, sessions led by circular economy advocates and policy experts highlighted practical pathways for youth engagement in National Adaptation Plans and urban sustainability.

International partners also joined the dialogue, with the C40 Cities Youth Team introducing virtual avenues for urban climate action. Additionally, Foday Kamara of the Youth Climate Council Global Alliance led a strategic workshop aimed at helping delegates identify professional roles within the expanding green economy.

Following the successful adoption of the National Youth Statement, organizers confirmed that next steps will involve active engagement with government authorities, international partners, and local stakeholders to turn the statement's recommendations into tangible policy outcomes.
