Sierra Leone's Sheriffa Rahman has impressed Basketball Without Borders trainer Bam Adebayo at the 19th edition of the camp in South Africa. The camp, which runs from July 28 to 31, is attended by 80 of the top high-school-age prospects from across Africa. Rahman, a 16-year-old guard, has been praised for her athleticism, ball-handling skills, and shooting ability. Adebayo, who is from Nigeria, said that Rahman has "a lot of potential" and that he is "excited to see what she can do in the future." In addition to Rahman, other notable participants at the camp include 2022 NBA All-Star Darius Garland, 2022 NBA champion Jonathan Kuminga, and Jalen Suggs. The camp will culminate with a game on Monday, July 31. BWB is a global basketball development initiative that has reached more than 4,100 participants from 136 countries and territories since 2001. The NBA and FIBA have staged 70 BWB camps in 47 cities across 32 countries on six continents.
- Leone Stars Forward Amadou Bakayoko joins Dundee FC on loan
Dundee Football Club has announced the signing of striker Amadou Bakayoko on a season-long loan from Forest Green Rovers, subject to international clearance. The 27-year-old Sierra Leonean international is a 6'4" center-forward who has played for a number of clubs in England, including Walsall, Coventry City, and Bolton Wanderers. Cambridge United are pleased to announce the signing of 27-year-old Sullay Kaikai on a one-year contract. The forward returns to the club for a second spell, having previously made 30 appearances for the U's on loan in 2014/15, scoring six goals and becoming a fan favorite. After coming through the Crystal Palace Academy, Kaikai made 11 appearances for the Eagles, interspersed with loan spells at a number of EFL clubs, including Shrewsbury, Brentford and Charlton. Kaikai left Palace in 2019 and signed for Eredivisie side NAC Breda, before joining Blackpool on a two-year contract, where he scored 13 goals in 68 appearances. He then moved to Wycombe and MK Dons, before now signing for the U's as Mark Bonner's fifth summer signing. Kaikai is a tricky winger who is good at dribbling and creating chances. He is also a good finisher, as evidenced by his goalscoring record at previous clubs. Kaikai is sure to be a popular addition to the U's squad and will be expected to make a significant contribution in the 2023/24 season.
- Para Athletes to participate in South Africa's Global Athlete Partnership for Sports Camp
The Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has announced that the Global Athlete Partnership for Sports (GAPS) Africa 2023 will be held in Stellenbosch, South Africa from August 23 to September 10, 2023. The training camp will feature athletes from three sports: Para-athletics, Powerlifting, and Para Table Tennis. The CGF applied the following principles in the selection process: ensuring gender balance with a ratio of 60% male and 40% female for coach selection, and a 50:50 ratio for athletes in 2023. There was also consideration given to the distribution between the three sports: Para-athletics (50%), Powerlifting (28%), and Para Table Tennis (22%). Additionally, no athletes under the age of 18 were selected in this round. Sierra Leonean athletes George Wyndham and Arold Sheka Kamara have been selected to compete in Para Table Tennis and Para Powerlifting, respectively. Wyndham is a decorated Paralympian who has won multiple medals at the African Games and the World Para Table Tennis Championships. Kamara is a rising star in Para Powerlifting who has already set several international records, including at the Dubai World Cup Para Competition. GAPS Africa 2023 is a valuable opportunity for these athletes to train and compete against other top athletes from the Commonwealth. The camp will also provide them with the support and resources they need to succeed at the highest level.

The Sixth Parliament of the Second Republic of Sierra Leone has approved forty two presidential nominees after they submitted their qualifications and completed interviews before the Committee on Appointments and Public Service. The debate was largely positive, with Members of Parliament expressing confidence in the nominees. The nominees were approved by Parliament with unanimity. The second batch of nominees, twenty-nine(29), were in the House of Parliament today. The nominees will take their oath of office before President Bio and assume their official duties. The Speaker of Parliament, the Rt. Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu congratulated the nominees and wished them well in their new roles. The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Thomas Daddy Brima, has pledged $5,000 and external transportation to Mogbwemo Queens as they prepare to participate in the 2023 CAF Women's Champions League Qualifiers in Liberia. Brima made the pledge on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, in the presence of his Vice President 1 Harold Nat-Johnson and the Acting General Secretary Mohamed Benson Bawoh, during a courtesy call paid on him by the management and players of Mogbwemo Queens at the SLFA Headquarters in Freetown. As part of his commitment, Brima assured the management and players of the team that they will not be left alone. "We will be providing our technical and professional support to you in every step of the way," he said. Bidding farewell to the Champions of the maiden Sierra Leone Female Premier League, Brima urged the team to put up their best performance and ensure qualification to the next stage of the tournament. "You are now ambassadors of our beloved country as you will be competing against other female clubs across Africa, representing not just Mogbwemo Queens as a club but Sierra Leone as a nation. We therefore also expect you all to put up your best behavior and be professional at all times," he said. Brima, with excitement, further said that, "For the first time in the history of Sierra Leone Football, we are going to be represented by a local female club in an international competition. Go make history and let's all be part of changing the narrative," he exclaimed passionately. Mogbwemo Queens have been placed in a group of four teams along with AS Mande of Mali, AS Dakar Sacre Coeur of Senegal, and the hosts Determine Girls of Liberia to play a round-robin system. The best team progresses to the 2023 CAF Women's Champions League, which will be played in Côte d'Ivoire between 5-19 November 2023.
