2,040 Bags of Cement Theft: Two Drivers Jailed for Five Years

Two drivers have been sentenced to five years each at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after pleading guilty to conspiracy and larceny involving 2,040 bags of cement valued at Le408,000.

The convicts, 32-year-old Hassan Kamara and 34-year-old Daniel Karim Jalloh, were sentenced by Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah of Pademba Road Court No. 1 after being found guilty on two counts: conspiracy to commit a felony and larceny contrary to Section 2 of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the particulars of the offence, between June 1 and 30, 2026, in Freetown, Western Area, the two men conspired with unknown persons to commit larceny.

The court further heard that Hassan Kamara, with intent to steal, unlawfully took 2,040 bags of cement belonging to Hamid Hajj Fawaz.

When the charges were read and explained to them, both defendants pleaded guilty.

Prosecutor Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen informed the court that the accused had no previous criminal records and were first-time offenders.

The two men, who were not represented by legal counsel, pleaded with the court for leniency and mercy.

In his ruling, Magistrate Jah said he considered the pleas from the convicts, their status as first-time offenders, and the fact that they saved the court’s time by pleading guilty. He subsequently sentenced each of them to five years’ imprisonment at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.
