Two Tillers Remanded Over Alleged US$10,000 Toyota 4Runner Fraud

Two tillers have been remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown after appearing before Pademba Road Court No. 1 over allegations of fraudulently converting a customer’s vehicle entrusted to them for repairs.

The accused, Sheriff Freeman, 22, and Ibrahim Kuyateh, 27, appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah on a charge of fraudulent conversion, contrary to Section 20(1)(iv) of the Larceny Act of 1916.

According to the prosecution, the alleged offence occurred between February 1 and 28, 2026, at No. 21 Main Motor Road, Congo Town, Western Area. The court heard that the defendants allegedly converted a silver Toyota 4Runner Sport Edition with registration number ARI 247, valued at US$10,000 (approximately Le240,000), belonging to Dennis Sylvester Davies.

Prosecutors alleged that the vehicle had been entrusted to the two men for repairs but was instead converted for their personal use.

When the charge was read and explained in court, no plea was taken because the matter is before the court as a committal proceeding.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Eric A. Deen, who prosecuted the case, informed the court that both defendants had been served with copies of the case and inquiry files. The accused acknowledged receiving the documents but appeared in court without legal representation.

Magistrate Jah refused to grant bail, citing the seriousness of the offence, and ordered that both accused be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre.
