A 20-year-old student, Moris Sillah, has been remanded at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre after appearing before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at the Pademba Road Court No. 2 in Freetown on serious drug-related charges.
Sillah is facing two counts under the National Drug Control Act of 2008 dealing in a prohibited drug without lawful authority and possession of a prohibited substance.
According to the particulars of the offence, the accused was apprehended on Thursday, August 14, 2025, at No. 9 Second Street, Mountain Cut, in the Western Area of Freetown. Prosecutors allege that he was caught selling and in possession of Kush, a banned substance, without any legal authorization.
The first count accuses Sillah of dealing in the prohibited drug, while the second alleges that he was found with a loose quantity of Kush at the same location. When the charges were read in court, the accused did not enter a plea.
Testifying as the prosecution’s third witness, Sergeant Peter Kaitibie of the Waterloo Police Station said he personally recognized the defendant. He explained that while on duty at the Eastern Police Station, he received intelligence about Sillah’s alleged involvement in Kush-related activities. Acting on this information, he led a team of officers to the accused’s residence, where Sillah was arrested along with the suspected drug.
Sergeant Kaitibie confirmed that the seized substance, believed to be Kush, was taken into police custody for further investigation. During cross-examination by defense counsel A.A. Bangura, the witness stood by his account, insisting that the evidence against the student was credible and consistent.
In his ruling, Magistrate Fornah denied bail to Sillah, citing the seriousness of the offence and the need to maintain the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The matter was adjourned to October 14, 2025, for further proceedings.
