23-Year-Old Mason Remanded Over Le60,000 Generator Theft Allegations

A 23-year-old mason, Alie Kargbo, has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown after being arraigned before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 over allegations of theft.

Kargbo is facing charges of conspiracy and larceny in connection with the alleged theft of a 3.5 KVA Thoprimo generator valued at Le60,000.

According to the prosecution, Kargbo allegedly conspired with unknown accomplices to steal the generator from a store on College Road, Leicester Village, in the Western Area. The alleged incident occurred on September 3, 2026.

The prosecution’s first witness, Detective Police Constable (DPC) Mary Bashiru, testified about her involvement in the investigation. She told the court that she knew both the complainant and the accused and was present when Kargbo was arrested.

DPC Bashiru also testified about investigative steps taken by the police, including visiting the alleged crime scene, taking photographs and interviewing individuals in connection with the case.

The court further heard that Kargbo was cautioned and questioned in Krio, with his responses recorded in English. The prosecution said the accused subsequently admitted the statement before the matter proceeded to court.

During her testimony, DPC Bashiru also explained that photographs taken at the alleged crime scene were not immediately retrieved because her phone had been left on charge.

Following the proceedings, Magistrate Fornah remanded Kargbo at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown.

The matter has been adjourned to September 29, 2026, for further proceedings.

Kargbo remains an accused person, and the allegations against him have not been proven in court.
