Shop Assistant Remanded Over Alleged 30,000 Leones Theft
A shop assistant accused of stealing 30,000 Leones from his employer has been remanded at the Male Correctional Facility in Freetown following his initial appearance in court.
The defendant, Abu Bakarr Fornah, appeared before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at the Pademba Road Court No. 2, facing a single count of larceny as a servant, pursuant to Section 17(1)(a) of the Larceny Act of 1916.
According to court records, the alleged incident took place on August 31, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m. at 14 Malama Thomas Street in Freetown. Fornah, who was employed as a servant by Fatu Bangura, is accused of stealing the sum of 30,000 Leones belonging to his employer.
During the court session, the charges were formally read and explained to the accused. However, no plea was entered, as the matter is currently at the committal stage of legal proceedings.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sorie Conteh, leading the prosecution, informed the court that the defendant had been properly served with copies of the case file and relevant inquiry documents.
Citing the severity and seriousness of the charge, Magistrate Fornah denied bail and remanded the accused in custody. The matter has been adjourned to September 25, 2026, for further hearing.
