29-Year-Old Woman Charged with Manslaughter in Husband's Fatal Stabbing

Isatu Bendu, aged 29, appeared in court yesterday to face charges related to the unlawful killing of her husband, Mustapha Bangura, following a stabbing incident on April 2.


The defendant appeared before Magistrate Mustapha Brima Jah at Pademba Road Court No. 1 in Freetown on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, charged with manslaughter in connection with her husband's death.

The charge alleges that Bendu unlawfully caused the death of Mustapha Bangura on April 2, 2025, at Kessie Williams Drive, Aberdeen Road, Freetown.


During the proceedings, Prosecutor Sergeant Mohamed Lahai presented testimony from the second witness, Inspector P.B. Kallon (ID: 15179), who is assigned to the Congo Cross Police Division.

Inspector Kallon testified that at approximately 10:55 p.m. on April 2, Dr. Peter Sorie Kamara Cole, residing at No. 6 Cockle Bay, Sir Samuel Lewis Road, apprehended the accused and brought her to the police station.


Inspector Kallon reported that Dr. Cole indicated the deceased, Mustapha Bangura, suffered a fatal stab wound to the left side of his chest.

A team of police officers, including DPC James E. Soko (ID: 13974), conducted an investigation at the crime scene.


Statements from the complainant, witnesses, and the accused, who remains in police custody, were collected and submitted as evidence.

Additionally, a death certificate issued by the Chief Examiner at Connaught Hospital was presented.


Due to the seriousness of the charge, Magistrate Jah denied bail to the accused.


The case has been adjourned to June 19, 2025, for further hearing.
