The Ministry of Social Welfare recently celebrated a significant achievement with the successful discharge of 43 individuals who completed a comprehensive rehabilitation program for drug addiction at Gondama Barracks in Bo District. This event underscores the government's steadfast commitment to combating drug abuse, including the pervasive substance "Kush," and fostering social inclusion.

The discharge ceremony served as a powerful gathering for government officials, health professionals, traditional leaders, faith communities, and families, collectively marking a moment of recovery, hope, and social reintegration.

Minister of Social Welfare, Mrs. Melrose Karminty, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing rehabilitation as the government’s priority over condemnation. She called on the beneficiaries to embrace responsibility and positive change as they return to their communities.

Dr. Amara Stevens Ngegbai, Bo District Medical Officer, reaffirmed the Ministry of Health's dedication to prevention and treatment, cautioning that long-term psychosocial support is essential to prevent relapse and ensure sustained recovery.

Stakeholders present stressed that the continued success of the program is contingent upon community acceptance, sustained guidance, and collective effort to integrate the beneficiaries as productive members of society. The Ministry stated that this successful outcome reflects its core commitment to human capital development and empowerment.
