A ghetto reform activist, Prince Jose Reffell, has made serious allegations against some personnel of the Sierra Leone Police (SLP), claiming that drugs seized during raids on ghettos were later resold to users.
Reffell, who describes himself as a former Kush user and a victim of drug abuse, made the claims during an interview on AYV Television’s Wake Up Sierra Leone programme. He alleged that during police operations targeting drug dens, Kush and other illegal substances were routinely confiscated, but that some officers allegedly diverted the seized drugs back into circulation.
According to Reffell, he was on several occasions invited by certain police officers to assess the quality of drugs seized during raids before they were allegedly resold.
“We used to buy Kush from personnel of the Sierra Leone Police,” Reffell claimed. “When they conduct raids in ghettos, they seize the Kush and other drugs found, and they usually invite me to assess the quality of the drugs. After I did, they will now resell it to the drug users.”
