Africell Sierra Leone once again asserted its prowess by launching its fifth generation (5G) network on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at the Sea View Lounge, New City Hall in Freetown.
In his statement during the launch, Africell Sierra Leone Chief Executive Officer Shadi Al-Gerjawi said the new 5G network is a testament to the company's commitment to transforming the lives of Sierra Leoneans through technology. He further reflected on how the company started with just a second generation (2G) network but slowly climbed up the ladder to 3G, 4G, and now 5G, which offers a far better experience in terms of fast and reliable internet connectivity that has and will revolutionize technology.
According to Shadi Al-Gerjawi, 5G is 100 times faster than 4G, and Africell has been bridging the digital divide in terms of bringing the best technology services to the nation.
Witnessing the launch was Chief Minister Dr. David Sengeh, who said the importance of such an event is to bring together various people from the business, entrepreneurship, youth, and CEO sectors to network, which will enhance creativity and innovation. Dr. Sengeh further stated that Africell's launch of a better quality internet connection will bring people closer from all walks of life and ease the flow of information that can be accessed anywhere in the country.
The launch was followed by the launch of the Africell Sierra Leone mobile application called "MyAfricell SL," which can be downloaded on both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store. The features of the application can be used to access banking and wallet services, pay utility bills, and also check your data, SMS, bonuses, and Afrimoney balance within the application as well.
