Aki-Sawyerr: Reversing Alpha's Appointment Key for APC Governance Return

Freetown Mayor, Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr, has asserted that the opposition All People's Congress's (APC) re-engagement in governance is contingent upon the reversal of the appointment of Chief Electoral Commissioner, Edmond Alpha.

In an interview on Liberty Online TV, Mayor Aki-Sawyerr characterized the APC's withdrawal from certain governance activities as a democratic measure intended to register the party's profound dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

She emphasized that this action should not be viewed merely as a political maneuver but rather as a principled effort to highlight issues the party believes fundamentally undermine democratic governance within the nation.

According to the Mayor, the matter transcends the specific interests of the APC and addresses broader concerns relating to the future viability of democracy in Sierra Leone.

Aki-Sawyerr stated that the APC views the appointment of Edmond Alpha as Chief Electoral Commissioner as representing a disregard for previous agreements.

She underscored the importance of resolving this dispute as a critical step toward rebuilding trust and restoring confidence among key political stakeholders.

The Freetown Mayor concluded that addressing the concerns surrounding the appointment is necessary to establish the conditions under which the APC can fully resume its participation in governance processes.
