The All People's Congress (APC) has issued a statement questioning the government regarding recent global news reports that allege high-ranking public officials closely associated with the current administration are involved in illegal drug trafficking.

Issued on Wednesday, January 29th, the statement expressed alarm over the reputational, security, and integrity risks that these persistent narratives pose to the country's image.

The APC highlighted specific examples of the aforementioned activities, including the discovery of illicit drugs by Guinean authorities involving Sierra Leonean government employees and the alleged association of convicted European drug trafficker Jos Bolle with the First Family.

According to the party, the persistent appearance of such activities threatens Sierra Leone's image in the international community, discourages foreign investment, and jeopardizes the future of the nation's youth, who are already struggling with drug abuse.

The APC specifically mentioned unresolved incidents, including a mysterious container from Brazil suspected of containing narcotics, an unidentified aircraft that landed at Lungi International Airport under suspicious circumstances, and a discovery of cocaine disguised as garri intercepted in the United Kingdom, allegedly originating from Sierra Leone.

The APC demands an independent investigation, accountability, prosecution, public disclosure, protection of whistleblowers, and the strengthening of border security.

Adherence to these suggestions, they assert, will ensure the protection of the national image, the future of the youth, and economic stability.
