Aviation Sector Soars with Three Years of Growth

Sierra Leone's aviation sector is on a strong upward trajectory, recording its third consecutive year of sustained passenger growth and signaling a resurgence of confidence in the nation's air transport infrastructure.

Data released by the Sierra Leone Civil Aviation Authority (SLCAA) confirms this expansion, with total passenger movements increasing by 7 percent year-on-year, climbing from 250,606 to 268,929. This consistent three-year performance indicates the sector has successfully transitioned from a recovery phase into a period of consolidation and robust expansion.

SLCAA Director General Musayeroh Barrie attributed this positive trend to comprehensive structural reforms, enhanced safety oversight, and unwavering political support. She noted, "These figures validate the growing confidence in our airports, regulatory framework, and operational systems. The increased influx of flights and passengers demonstrates international partners are positively responding to the heightened standards we are enforcing."

The progress is further supported by the national reform agenda, which has strengthened safety protocols, restored airline trust, and improved overall operational readiness. With December registering over 29,000 passengers—the busiest month—the sector is optimistic about continued expansion, driven by new route development, further regulatory reforms, and rising investor confidence.
