Babadi Kamara Backs Shooting Stars’ Bid for 2027 U-20 AFCON Qualification

Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) President Babadi Kamara has challenged the national U-20 team, the Shooting Stars, to target a place in the final of the WAFU-A U-20 Tournament in Mali, describing the competition as a career-defining opportunity and a potential pathway to the 2027 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Speaking to the players and technical team in Conakry, Guinea, Kamara urged the squad to remain disciplined, focused and determined to achieve success. He cited Sierra Leonean defender Jumah Bah’s rise to the Bundesliga as an example of how dedication and hard work can open doors to higher levels of football.
Kamara also pledged continued support for the team through regular training camps and international friendly matches to improve their performance and experience. He emphasised that player selection must be based on merit, clarifying that he had not recommended any player and that the technical team should make independent decisions in the best interests of the national side.
The SLFA president’s message reflects the association’s commitment to developing young talent and strengthening Sierra Leone’s prospects of reaching the WAFU-A U-20 final and qualifying for the 2027 U-20 AFCON.
