Joseph Sesay, accused of cyberstalking and cyberbullying, was granted bail today after appearing in court to face charges of circulating threatening audio messages via WhatsApp.
The case, which highlights growing concerns about online harassment, involves allegations that Sesay targeted fellow Sierra Leonean Edward Sesay.
Magistrate Sao Mamakoh Kallon of Pademba Road Court No. 3 heard that Joseph Sesay allegedly used the popular messaging platform on December 3, 2023, to disseminate audio recordings designed to damage Edward Sesay's reputation, incite fear, and cause emotional harm.
The indictment states these actions violate Section 44(1)(a) of the Cyber Security and Crime Act, 2021, and threaten peace and personal safety.
Inspector Mohamed Jusu, a cyber analyst with two decades of experience, testified that he analyzed evidence from a seized mobile phone, confirming the presence of audio messages linked to the case.
The court adjourned the case to August 8, 2025, as prosecutors continue their investigation.
This ongoing legal battle underscores the critical role of cyber laws in protecting individuals from digital abuse and emphasizes the increasing need for vigilance in the online sphere.
