Crime: Bench Warrant Issued for Kao Denero After Court No-Show in Assault Case

A bench warrant has allegedly been issued for the immediate arrest of popular Sierra Leonean artist Amara Dennis Turay, widely known as Kao Denero, after he failed to appear in court today.

Turay was expected to face charges of incitement and aggravated assault stemming from an alleged attack on fellow musician Fredrick Dapaye Peters, popularly known as Famous, and his team.

Kao Denero had reportedly claimed to be suffering from high blood pressure and to have been admitted to the 34 Military Hospital, later traveling to the USA for medical reasons.

However, the court has since deemed the provided medical report to be fake and legally unacceptable, ordering his appearance. His absence in court today directly led to the issuance of the bench warrant.

This matter is related to the incident that transpired on February 22, 2025, at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Aberdeen, Freetown, during an event hosted by female artist Star Zee and Kao is said to be accused of inciting an attack that resulted in the assault of musician Fredrick Dapaye Peters.

This matter, though stated to be charged separately, is related to ongoing legal proceedings including Amidu Sesay and Mohamed H. Kargbo (also known as Med Denero), facing a seven-count indictment before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah.

The charges of that case encompass conspiracy, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, disorderly conduct, and intimidation, all alleged to have occurred in violation of Sierra Leonean law.
