Bangura-Williams, Abdulai Receive First Senior Leone Stars Call-Ups

Ra’ees Bangura-Williams and Azeem Kerr Abdulai have received their first senior international call-ups for Sierra Leone as the Leone Stars prepare for their opening matches in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations 2027 qualifying campaign.

The two players are part of the 25-man squad named by head coach Didier Gomes Da Rosa for Sierra Leone’s Group E fixtures against Zimbabwe and Equatorial Guinea. (Sierraloaded⁠)

Bangura-Williams, who joined Cambridge United on a season-long loan from Millwall in August, has been included in the Leone Stars squad after previously representing England at youth level.

The London-born player is eligible to represent Sierra Leone through his heritage and now has the opportunity to make his senior international debut with the Leone Stars.

Abdulai also comes into the squad with previous youth international experience, having represented Scotland at Under-21 level. Born in Glasgow and eligible for Sierra Leone through his father, he developed through the academies of Celtic, Leicester City and Swansea City before progressing into senior football.

His move to Hibernian has marked another stage in his club career, while his inclusion in the Leone Stars squad gives him an opportunity to begin his senior international journey with Sierra Leone.

The inclusion of the two players adds new options to Gomes Da Rosa’s squad as Sierra Leone prepare for the start of their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.

The Leone Stars will open their Group E campaign against Zimbabwe on September 24 before travelling to face Equatorial Guinea on September 28. The group also includes the Democratic Republic of Congo. (Confédération Africaine de Football⁠)
