Barrister Tengbeh Lectures Motema Police Officers on Law of Evidence
The Motema Police Division hosted a legal and professional development lecture on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, aimed at strengthening officers’ operational effectiveness in criminal investigations and the administration of justice.
The lecture was delivered during the morning parade by Barrister A.T.C. Tengbeh, Head of the Legal and Justice Department for the Kono Police Divisions. The session was attended by personnel from various units across the division, including Head of Strategic Command LUC Mr. Alimamy Gibrill Sesay (CSP), DSP James Demmah (OC-OSD), the Crime Officer, and other senior and rank-and-file officers.
The presentation focused primarily on the Law of Evidence, emphasizing the proper handling, preservation, assessment, and presentation of evidence in criminal matters. Barrister Tengbeh stressed that ensuring evidence is lawfully obtained and meticulously preserved is critical for preparing credible case files and securing successful prosecutions before the courts.
In addition, Barrister Tengbeh addressed the legal concepts of alibi and ambiguity, highlighting how these issues arise during criminal investigations. He advised officers to treat such matters objectively and in strict accordance with the law to avoid procedural errors that could jeopardize cases.
Addressing emerging operational challenges related to cyber offences, Barrister Tengbeh cautioned personnel regarding unauthorized access to electronic devices and private information. He emphasized that personal or romantic relationships do not grant lawful authority to access another individual's mobile phone or electronic device without explicit consent or legal authorization. Officers were urged to exercise caution, professionalism, and respect for individual rights when handling cyber-related complaints.
The session will be followed by a practical moot court demonstration scheduled for Friday, September 18, 2026, at the Main Garage of the Motema Police Divisional Headquarters. The practical exercise aims to further deepen officers' understanding of courtroom procedures and the practical application of evidential law.
