Bench Warrant Issued for Driver In Absentia Over Malicious Damage, Fraud
A bench warrant has been issued for a 41-year-old driver after he failed to appear in court today to face charges of malicious vehicle damage and fraudulent conversion.
Magistrate John Manso Fornah ordered the arrest of the defendant, Abubakarr Sesay, along with his surety, during proceedings at Pademba Road Court No. 2. A subpoena was also served on the complainant, Mohamed Sillah Sankoh, following his absence from the hearing.
The charges stem from an incident on March 4 at the Murray Town Navy Wharf in Freetown. Prosecutors allege that Sesay maliciously damaged a Nissan Almera valued at Le150,000, owned by Sankoh. Additionally, Sesay is accused of fraudulently converting Le34,000 entrusted to him for delivery.
Prosecuting officer Sergeant Wilson informed the court that Sesay had previously been granted police bail. However, no bail bond was present in the case file, and the accused failed to respond to the court summons.
Emphasizing the court’s obligation to maintain judicial accountability, Magistrate Fornah ordered law enforcement to locate and arrest Sesay and his surety while securing the complainant’s presence for the next hearing.
The court adjourned the matter to September 30, 2026, when proceedings are expected to resume.
