18-Year-Old Fisherman Sentenced for Theft and Malicious Damage

18-year-old Philip Elijah Mansaray handed six-month sentences per Magistrate John Manso Fornah delivered the verdict against Philip Elijah Mansaray following an incident on August 11 at the Ehyor Beach Bar and Restaurant in Aberdeen. 

According to court records, Mansaray stole two air conditioner pipes and various generator cables valued at 5,500 Leones, subsequently damaging the property later that day.

Appearing without legal representation, Mansaray pleaded guilty upon hearing the charges and requested leniency from the court, citing his youth and status as a first-time offender.

Prosecuting Officer Police Constable Thoranka K.K. informed the court that Mansaray had fully cooperated with law enforcement, providing voluntary statements acknowledging his actions. The prosecution confirmed that the defendant had no prior criminal record.

In his sentencing address, Magistrate Fornah acknowledged the defendant’s immediate admission of guilt and lack of prior convictions, noting the necessity of balancing legal retribution with mercy.

Magistrate Fornah sentenced Mansaray to six months’ imprisonment for each of the two counts. Alternatively, the court offered the option to pay a fine of 2,000 Leones (Le 2,000) per offense.

The custodial sentences are to be served in full should the fines remain unpaid.
