34-year-old Alimamy Kargbo, also known as Martin, a bike rider, has been remanded in custody after appearing before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1 on a charge of conspiracy to commit a crime.
Kargbo is accused of conspiring with an unknown person between January 26 and July 25, 2023, at No. 11 Beccle Lane, Brookfield, Freetown, to defraud Ansu Sesay of Le 175,000. He allegedly claimed ownership of a piece of land at Mile Thirteen, knowing the claim to be false, with the intent to deceive.
During proceedings, Prosecutor Sergeant 9939 Liah M called Detective Sergeant 11701 Ibrahim Koroma of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to testify. Detective Koroma stated that the complainant and witnesses reported the alleged fraud on July 25, 2023, and a voluntary caution statement was obtained in Krio, confirmed, signed, and tendered as evidence in court (Exhibits B1–11).
The defendant was also questioned on July 29, 2023, and voluntarily provided a statement in English, affirming its accuracy with his thumbprint, which was also admitted as evidence. On July 30, 2023, Kargbo was formally charged with conspiracy to defraud and obtaining money by false pretences. He again admitted the facts in Krio and confirmed their accuracy.
The case was adjourned to January 14, 2026, for cross-examination after the defense requested a short postponement for proper consultation. Magistrate Jah remanded Kargbo in custody pending the next hearing.
