Prosecution Presents Key Evidence in Double Murder High Court Case

The high-profile murder trial involving Vandi Kamara and Momoh Kai has continued at the High Court in Freetown, with the prosecution presenting key evidence and witness testimony in the alleged double murder of Uma Marjorie Sowie Alie and Juldeh Jalloh.

The case is being heard before Justice Abdul Rahman Mansaray.

During proceedings, the prosecution tendered several exhibits believed to be linked to the deaths, including items recovered from the alleged crime scene as well as electronic devices.

Testifying as the first prosecution witness, Detective Inspector Borbor Keff told the court that he visited the crime scene during the investigation and recovered multiple items, including a backpack, a black ladies’ handbag, two knives, two wooden sticks, and a blanket. He identified the items in court, noting that the accused persons allegedly associated themselves with them during investigations. The exhibits were formally tendered into evidence.

Inspector Keff further stated that additional items were recovered following the arrest of the accused persons, including a blue iPhone 11 Plus, a black Redmi phone, a damaged padlock, an empty phone box, a phone pouch, and an older mobile phone, all of which were also presented in court.

Another prosecution witness, Augustine Batima, testified regarding a video recording involving the first accused. He told the court that the footage was recorded on his Samsung Galaxy S9 phone and later transferred to a flash drive, which was also admitted into evidence.

State Counsel J. S. Tucker applied for the temporary release of the mobile phone used in the recording, arguing that it belonged to the witness. The court granted the application.

Batima further testified that during interrogation, the accused persons reportedly identified the recovered items and acknowledged familiarity with them. He added that the investigation was conducted in their presence in accordance with proper procedures.

The court also noted that no plea was entered by the accused when the charges were read and explained.

The matter has been adjourned to July 1, 2026, for further hearing as the trial continues.
