Bo-Yele–Matotoka Road Rehabilitation Set to Boost Economic Growth and Connectivity

The Road Maintenance Fund Administration (RMFA) has launched a major rehabilitation project on the 90-kilometre Bo-Yele–Matotoka Road, a development expected to significantly enhance socio-economic growth in Sierra Leone.

The project includes road resurfacing, regravelling, and construction of culverts to improve agricultural and human transportation across the region.

At the official handover ceremony, RMFA Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Kallon underscored the strategic importance of the initiative. He explained that funding for the project comes from the National Road Fund, a resource contributed by every Sierra Leonean, and forms part of a broader government agenda to strengthen national connectivity and drive sustainable economic growth.

“Our mission is to ensure roads like Bo-Yele–Matotoka link communities, markets, and services, while creating opportunities for local businesses and farmers,” Kallon said. He also highlighted performance-based contracts designed to hold contractors accountable for quality, safety, and timely completion of the project.

Director General of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu, stressed the responsible use of taxpayers’ money, urging contractors to adhere strictly to performance standards. SLRA Board Chairman Mr. Gondo Margai further encouraged local communities to actively monitor the project and take ownership of the improved infrastructure.

The rehabilitation of the Bo-Yele–Matotoka Road is expected to reduce travel time, facilitate the transport of agricultural produce to markets, and enhance access to schools, health centers, and other essential services. By linking towns, villages, and economic hubs, the project represents a critical step toward boosting trade, improving livelihoods, and supporting Sierra Leone’s long-term economic growth.
