Gola Rainforest Management Reviews Roles of Several Staff Over Qualification Concerns

Management of Gola Rainforest Conservation Limited by Guarantee has initiated an internal review affecting approximately 30 workers as part of efforts to strengthen professional standards within the organization.

The conservation body, which oversees the protection and management of the Gola Rainforest National Park, operates from its head office at 164 Dama Road in Kenema. It works closely with local communities, government institutions, and international partners to safeguard one of West Africa’s most significant tropical rainforest ecosystems.

According to information gathered from local sources, the management’s decision followed concerns that some personnel occupying certain roles may not possess the required qualifications to effectively carry out their responsibilities. As a result, the organization has reportedly taken steps to temporarily scale down or reassess the duties of the affected workers while the review process continues.

Officials within the institution emphasize that maintaining a competent workforce is vital for the successful implementation of conservation activities, climate resilience programmes, and community-based development initiatives linked to the forest.

The Gola conservation programme collaborates with several chiefdoms and more than a hundred forest-edge communities surrounding the national park. Through these partnerships, the programme promotes sustainable livelihood opportunities while protecting biodiversity and natural resources within the rainforest landscape.

The move to review staff roles has generated mixed reactions among employees and members of nearby communities.
