The Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs has formally announced the indefinite suspension of Paramount Chieftaincy elections within the Dodo, Jaluahun, and Imperri chiefdoms. This administrative directive follows significant challenges identified within the traditional governance frameworks, which serve as a cornerstone of the national social and administrative infrastructure.

The decision to halt proceedings was necessitated by escalating security concerns and a series of formal petitions submitted by competing ruling houses. Central to these disputes is the "gazetting" process—the official verification and listing of eligible candidates. Perceptions of procedural irregularity in determining lineage eligibility have historically proven to be catalysts for localized instability.

Minister Tamba Lamina underscored that the administration's primary mandate is the preservation of peace and national stability. The Minister further clarified that the National Electoral Commission (NEC) is restricted from advancing the electoral timeline until a comprehensive mediation of local lineage disputes is successfully concluded.

Consequently, the populations of Kenema, Kailahun, and Bonthe districts remain under the provisional authority of Regent Chiefs. This reliance on interim leadership poses potential risks to the continuity of local development initiatives and may impede the efficiency of traditional judicial proceedings during this period of transition.
