Caretakers Charged with Alleged $7,000 Theft at Kei Kamara's Home; One Pleads Not Guilty

Three individuals employed as caretakers at the Fadika Drive residence of Sierra Leonean football star Kai Kamara appeared in Pademba Road Magistrate Court yesterday, facing charges of conspiracy and larceny in connection with the alleged theft of $7,000. Voluntary caution statements detailing the incident were formally tendered in court.

Abubakarr Turay, his wife Fatmata Bangura, and their daughter Kadiatu Turay, who served as on-site caretakers at Kamara's Hill Station apartment, are accused under the Larceny Act of 1916. The alleged theft reportedly occurred on January 15, 2025.

During Tuesday's court session before Magistrate Mustapha Braima Jah at Pademba Road Magistrate Court No. 1, Abubakarr Turay entered a plea of not guilty. His wife and daughter, however, admitted to committing the offense.

Detective Andrew Nyakeh Amara of CID Headquarters in Freetown West testified that he obtained voluntary caution statements from the trio between January 20 and February 2, 2025. These statements, recorded in both Krio and English, and bearing the signatures and thumbprints of the accused, were accepted as exhibits. Under cross-examination, Detective Amara confirmed that one defendant denied taking the $7,000 but acknowledged their role as Kamara's caretaker.

The preliminary investigation, initiated under the Larceny Act, has been adjourned to September 1, 2025, for further proceedings. Bail remains in force for all three accused persons.
