Carpenter Lands in Jail Over Theft of Electronics Worth Over NLe 30,000

Mohamed Bangura, popularly known as “Bone,” a carpenter, has been remanded in custody after being charged with housebreaking, larceny, and malicious damage in connection with a break-in and theft at a residence in Freetown.

Bangura made his first appearance before Magistrate John Manso Fornah at Pademba Road Court No. 2 on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, where he was charged on two counts: housebreaking and larceny, and malicious damage.

According to the police indictment, the accused allegedly broke and entered the residence of Alhaji Kabba at No. 57 Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown, on Friday, December 5, 2025, with intent to steal.

The prosecution claims that Bangura stole a Home Theatre Deck valued at £850 (approximately NLe 26,350), a DSTV receiver worth NLe 2,500, and a stabilizer valued at NLe 3,000, all totaling NLe 31,850. The stolen properties were said to be in the custody of Babatunde Samuel Kamara at the time of the alleged offence.

In a further count, police allege that on the same date and at the same location, the accused maliciously damaged a 65-inch LG plasma television valued at NLe 51,150.

When the charges were read and explained to him, Bangura did not enter a plea, as the matter is currently at the preliminary investigation stage.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Wilson, applied for a subpoena to be issued for the Exhibit Officer and the Investigating Officer to testify before the court.

The accused, who was unrepresented by legal counsel, informed the court that he had no questions for the prosecution witnesses.

After listening to submissions, Magistrate Fornah ordered that Bangura be remanded at the Male Correctional Centre in Freetown. The matter has been adjourned to January 27, 2026, for further proceedings.
