Nigerian Man Detained for Illegal Entry into Sierra Leone

A 21-year-old Nigerian man is currently in police custody, facing charges of illegal entry into Sierra Leone without a permit, the court has revealed.

The defendant, Ibrahim Bello, an unemployed resident of Lagos, Nigeria, is scheduled to appear before Magistrate Salamatu A. Jalloh at Pademba Road Court No. 8.

Bello faces two charges: entering Sierra Leone without a permit, contrary to Section 16(1) of the Non-Citizen (Registration, Immigration, and Expulsion) Act of 1964, Act No. 14 of 1965, and disregarding obligations under Section 18 of the same Act, in violation of Section 36(c).

According to court documents, on Monday, 29 December 2025, at Tombo Wharf off Waterloo in the Western Area of Freetown, Bello was discovered entering Sierra Leone without a reasonable explanation for his purpose and without the required permit. Police also alleged that he deliberately disregarded the obligations imposed by the Registration, Immigration, and Expulsion Act of 1965.

During proceedings, the prosecution informed the bench that the defendant is in police custody and assured the court that he would be present at the next adjourned date.

Magistrate Jalloh adjourned the case to 26 January 2026.
