CCTV Evidence Leads to Bail Denial for Housebreaking Suspect
Dominic Lamin, an ICT consultant at the American Embassy, testified regarding the incident that led to the arrest of the accused, Salim Fofanah, a painter. Testifying before Magistrate John Manso Fornah, Lamin explained that he recognized the defendant through his landlord, Mr. Amadu Wurrie, and provided a comprehensive timeline of the events of June 4, 2026.
Lamin recounted that earlier that day, he had provided funds to the defendant to assist with compound maintenance, including cleaning and security. According to Lamin, at approximately 11:00 a.m., he observed the defendant repairing the gate and cautioned him to prioritize property security.
Later that day, at approximately 5:42 p.m., Lamin reviewed CCTV footage from his iPhone 14 Pro Max and discovered the defendant entering through a window. The footage further showed the defendant exiting through the kitchen door after breaking into the house. Lamin testified that he immediately contacted his neighbor, who raised an alarm, prompting police to respond.
Upon investigation, Lamin reported the theft of a DJI drone, a heavy-duty tool kit, specialized drilling shoes, and other valuables, with an estimated total value of Le78,540. The CCTV footage, which was saved on a flash drive and presented as evidence, confirmed the defendant’s involvement.
Lamin further stated that the defendant was found in possession of several stolen items, including rice, a spoon, a red cup, water, milk, sugar, and two keys used to exit the premises. The defendant admitted to the theft when questioned. Police subsequently took the defendant into custody, along with his employer, Fofana Koroma, and returned to the scene for further investigation.
During cross-examination, the defendant challenged aspects of Lamin’s testimony; however, the witness remained firm in his account. The court was informed that the CCTV footage remains in police custody and has been entered into the court record.
Magistrate Fornah denied bail, citing the gravity of the charges, and adjourned the case until June 30, 2026, for further proceedings.
