His Excellency Wang Qing, the Chinese Ambassador to Sierra Leone, during a meeting held on 12th June, expressed his approval of the extensive judicial reforms undertaken by Chief Justice Komba Kamanda, emphasising the accomplishments achieved within the first 200 days of his tenure.

Ambassador Qing specifically highlighted the reorganization of the Bailiffs Department, noting that executions will only proceed with the explicit approval of Supervisory Judges. He praised this initiative as a crucial step towards enhancing accountability within the justice system.

Additional reforms include the expansion of access to justice in remote regions through the appointment of more Magistrates and Judges. The High Court in Pujehun District, which had been inactive for two years, has also been reactivated.

Moreover, the Chief Justice has revised the process for Adoption Orders, ensuring that the Master and Registrar, rather than Court Registrars, now sign perfected orders, aiming to enhance oversight and integrity.

Chief Justice Kamanda expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Qing, acknowledging the Chinese Embassy's efforts to strengthen relations with the Sierra Leonean Judiciary. He highlighted the longstanding 55-year relationship between Sierra Leone and China, noting mutually beneficial collaborations, particularly in infrastructure projects such as the National Stadium and various healthcare facilities.

The Chief Justice reaffirmed the Judiciary's commitment to delivering justice fairly and impartially, striving to meet the needs of the public. While recognizing the significant challenges and costs associated with justice globally, he appealed to the Chinese Ambassador for continued support to fully realize the Judiciary's mandate.

The Chief Justice's delegation, which included other Honourable Justices of the superior Court of Judicature, also provided statements during the meeting.
