Comprehensive 2026–2030 National Transport Policy Unveiled
The Cabinet of Sierra Leone has approved a new National Transport Sector Policy and Strategic Plan (2026–2030), establishing a multi-year roadmap to modernize the nation's transit infrastructure and regulatory frameworks.
The announcement was delivered by Minister of Information and Civic Education, Hon. Chernor Bah, during the Government Weekly Press Conference on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Miatta Civic Centre.
The policy initiative was presented during a dedicated Cabinet session by the Ministry of Transport and Aviation. Designed to resolve systemic bottlenecks across land, maritime, and aviation networks, the strategy emphasizes enhanced safety, affordability, accessibility, and operational efficiency for passenger and freight transit nationwide.
Key priority areas outlined in the policy include major upgrades to road infrastructure, public transit expansion, transport financing, institutional alignment, and the integration of electric mobility solutions.
To oversee execution, the Minister of Transport and Aviation has been empowered to collaborate with the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice to draft necessary legal, regulatory, and structural reforms.
Government officials highlighted that the framework underwent rigorous review due to its critical role in supporting economic growth, strengthening regional connectivity, and establishing a sustainable transport network across Sierra Leone.
