Contractor Remanded Over Alleged Freetown Public Fight

A 44-year-old building contractor, Sulaiman Tarawally, has been remanded to Freetown's Male Correctional Facility after making a court appearance over an alleged public brawl.

The incident allegedly occurred on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at No. 9 Andrew Street in Freetown's Western Area. Prosecutors contend that Tarawally engaged in an affray intended to cause public alarm.

Appearing before Magistrate Saio Mamakoh Betty Kallon at Pademba Road Court No. 3, Tarawally faces a charge under Section 11 of the Public Order Act No. 46 of 1965.

Because the matter is currently in preliminary committal proceedings to evaluate the case prior to a full trial, no plea was entered.

Prosecuting Inspector Mohamed Kamara informed the court that the case file and inquiry documents were formally served to Tarawally, who confirmed receipt.

Citing the severity of the alleged offense, Magistrate Kallon denied bail and remanded Tarawally to custody. The matter was adjourned to November 11, 2026, with no findings of guilt made at this initial stage.
