Cross-Examination Highlights Inconsistencies in Kpaka Murder Trial

The murder trial of Abdul Kpaka reached a critical juncture this week as State Counsel Yusuf Isaac Sesay identified significant discrepancies between the defendant's court testimony and his prior police statements regarding the death of Sia Fatu Kamara.

Under cross-examination, Kpaka admitted that several key details presented in his court testimony—specifically concerning the period between August 11 and 13—were absent from the three official statements he provided to investigators following his arrest on August 14. 

While Kpaka maintained he had informed police of the deceased's alleged heart condition, the prosecution pointed out that his documented records (Exhibits E1 to E9) lacked specific accounts of his interactions on the days leading up to the incident.

Kpaka testified that the deceased spent August 11 at his residence and that he picked her up with his driver the following day. However, he acknowledged during questioning that neither of these events was documented in his police statements. 

Further inconsistencies emerged regarding the morning of August 13; Kpaka claimed in court to have consulted a nurse before transporting Kamara to the hospital, a detail that was also missing from his earlier accounts.

The defendant further detailed arriving at the Emergency Hospital shortly after 7:00 a.m. and personally wheeling the deceased into the facility. The prosecution continues to focus on why these narrative elements were only introduced during the trial phase rather than during the initial police investigation.

The court has adjourned proceedings until August 5, when the cross-examination of the defendant is scheduled to resume.
