Cricket Sierra Leone (CSL) formally awarded trophies and medals to Dr. Emmanuel Saffa Abdulai, Executive Director of the National Sport Authority (NSA), in recognition of the Senior Women’s Team's outstanding performance at the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier held in Gaborone, Botswana.
The team, together with CSL officials and media representatives, showcased their enthusiasm and pride despite facing considerable challenges.
CSL Vice Chairman Kobi Walker presented the runner-up trophy, highlighting the team’s commitment even in the absence of government funding.
He disclosed that the players traveled to Botswana without financial resources and urged the government to allocate land to retiring players as a legacy, which would inspire emerging talent.
Walker emphasized the need for support for the team’s forthcoming World Cup participation in August, noting its importance in combating social issues such as drug abuse and prostitution.
Dr. Saffa Abdulai extended his congratulations to the team, apologized for the lack of funding, and clarified that obtaining government funds requires more than a month's notice.
He reaffirmed the NSA's dedication to cricket, committing to support local leagues this year and to secure necessary resources. He also promised to facilitate a meeting with the President for the team to present their trophies and voice their concerns, acknowledging the critical role of sports in youth development.
He concluded by encouraging CSL Board Chairman Francis Trevor Samura to promote unity within the sport. Captain Aminata Kamara expressed gratitude to CSL for the opportunity and looked forward to meeting President Bio.
