Culture Radio 104.5 FM, with support from Bread for the World, Germany, successfully concluded a two-day media literacy training for 20 youths in Bo on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
According to Station Manager Madam Aminata Finda Massaquoi, this initiative is a component of a two-year project titled “Radio Work to Stimulate Civic Participation in Democracy and Human Rights in Five Districts.” The project's core objective is to enhance youth capacity in media literacy, fostering their ability to critically evaluate media messages, uphold democratic principles of inclusivity, and promote equitable participation.
Madam Massaquoi further explained that the training emphasized the responsible use of social media, encouraging participants to contribute positively to national peace and development. She highlighted that given the vulnerability of the country's large, often unemployed, youth population to manipulation, such trainings are vital for cultivating a positive change in mindset and ensuring active youth involvement in decision-making and meaningful national development.
She noted Culture Radio's prior engagement with bloggers on issues like hate speech and fake news. Madam Massaquoi concluded by urging the beneficiaries to become change-makers in their communities by advocating for responsible media use and civic engagement. Participants commended the initiative and pledged to disseminate the acquired knowledge.
